Team

MATRIS Science Lab has a team at each institution. Some members work in both units and are listed in both, with the role they hold in each.

DS

Univ.-Prof. Priv.-Doz. Dr. Dimitris E. Simos

Head of MATRIS Science Lab · Joint Professor of Cybersecurity

  • Head of Division MATRIS – Complex, Secure and Resilient Systems, and University Professor for Cybersecurity, University of Salzburg
  • Head of Research Group MATRIS – Resilience and Security Testing, and Senior Lecturer, FH Salzburg
  • Representative of the University of Salzburg on the Austrian IIASA Committee of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (since 2025)

Dimitris E. Simos has held the state-funded joint professorship in cybersecurity of the University of Salzburg and FH Salzburg since July 2025. His work connects discrete mathematics, combinatorial testing and cybersecurity, with more than 150 publications. He has been a guest researcher at the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), led the MATRIS group at SBA Research in Vienna (2017–2025), and served as Austria's science and technology representative to the United Nations on disaster risk reduction.
